My name is Chris, and I am a geek.

I am no longer in denial.

I am a geek.

And a Mac fan boy.

I realized I was a geek when I got all “geeked” about the iPhone. Now that I have one, my inner geek is coming out. If you haven’t played with one, don’t. Seeing one in action, or touching one could lead to wireless contract cancellation, and a trip to your local Apple store.

The true realization was the fact that I am excited—yes, excited—about receiving the new Mac OS X 10.5. I am excited over a new operating system. Now that is the sign of a geek. I pre-ordered my copy (what kind of person pre-orders an operating system? A geek.). And I am expecting it at any moment.

UPDATE: Apple didn’t include my company name on the label, so the package was not delivered. Hopefully, FedEx will redeliver with the updated address…

So there, I have come clean. I am a geek.

iPhone obsession…

I am a Mac guy. Have been since the 8th grade. Got my first Mac (an SE30) in high school. Got a Performa in college. the original iMac when I got my first job out of college. A powerbook before I started my freelance work and side company. An iBook for an upgrade, and a bigger iBook when I was out on tour with Coldplay in the summer of 2005.

Even more, I have 2 iPods. Both were gifts. A 3rd generation 40GB from my employer. An original nano from Clear Channel as an end of tour gift.

But there is something about the iPhone I just can’t shake.

I want one. I want one bad. I haven’t touched one. I haven’t even seen one in person.

A friend of mine, who also wants one, was trying to hold out, but cracked and visited his local AT&T store in Monteray, California. They were sold out. But… the manager let him play with one. His words of advice? Don’t touch one until you are ready to buy.

I am a gadget guy, and there is someting about gadget that make want to have one.

But the iPhone is above and beyond that giddy — ooh, how cool, I want one — feeling. It is a true obsession.

What is it that makes me want it so much? I can ditch my Palm TX, I can stop carring my camera, I can consolidate to one iPod for car+work+travel, I can leave my laptop behind for simple things like email and web browsing. One device. Everything I need. It must be too good to be true.

Thanks to Verizon and the $350 in cancelation fees I would have to pay, I have to wait 91 days until my contract expires. Enough time to save up some cash. Read some real usage reviews. And see what updates come down the pike.

Oh, I can’t wait… 91 days and counting…
