0513071250b.jpg0513071250a.jpgThe frame has finally come together. Next is the shelves, and the doors. Then it is time to stain. It is so exciting seeing this vanity come together. My uncle is a true genius when it comes to working with wood.

Bathroom Vanity Workday #2

I was back out at the shop in Painesville again with my uncle. We made some good progress on the vanity. the sides panels were put together (a shaker style), and the 3 doors were also put together (same shaker style). The doors will have a faux drawer look when finished.

I sanded the begeezes out of the front and rear frames. My hands were vibrating for an hour after.

Next step is putting it all together. That will be in about 2 weeks. Hopefully by the time we get to staining it, it will be time to install it.

It is all coming together. Sorry, no photos this time.

Bathroon Vanity Workday #1

img55l.jpgOne of the projects associated with the bathroom project is the vanity. We couldn’t really find one that we like all that much at Lowe’s or Home Depot. We were ready to settle on one, until the Pottery Barn catalog arrived.

There it was on page 27. The picture I have had in my head of what I wanted this bathroom to look like. It has quickly become my inspiration (this photo is updated for the spring, the original had a tan colored wall).

vanity-stage-1.jpgSince a $3000 vanity was not in the budget (thanks Pottery Barn). I turned to yet another family member for help. My Uncle Brian is a master woodworker. A cabinet maker. A custom furniture builder. If it involves wood, he can make it. So I asked if we could make our own vanity that looked similar to the Pottery Barn vanity. He assured me it could be done.

So this past weekend, I spent an afternoon in the shop with him, and got a few lessons in wood working, and furniture making. We made good progress and are on our way to a custom built vanity for the Master Bathroom. Here it is, well the frame of it…
